Jesus experienced the utmost humiliation. From the feed-trough and the manger at his birth to his death on the cross. May we return again to the only thing that counts: to the way of Jesus Christ who was humiliated, tried, and crucified with criminals for our sake. We want to ask God to let us become like Jesus and, like him, to revere the childlike spirit of love and humility.

- Eberhard ArnoldIn the church of the Holy Spirit, the future kingdom of God is present with its perfect justice, its absolute peace, and its joy in love and unity. In the midst of the church, the king of peace brings here and brings now her inviolable community of peace both within and without – nothing but peace. Where there is redemption and reconciliation through Christ, even the locking-up of Satan for the thousand years of rejoicing is present reality because peace is here and now put into action.

Peace is the flaming eye of the armies of God. It is the battle song of His heavenly hosts: “Glory to God in the highest! Peace on earth to men of good will.” In the strength of this peace the Messiah-King entered the walls of Jerusalem. He rode no warhorse to a battle in which blood would be shed on both sides. The animal of poverty and peace bore Him as He was met by the cry, “Hail to him who cometh in the name of the Lord. With Him is peace!”

Christmas did not come after a great hoard of people had completed something good, or because of the successful result of any human effort. No, it came as a miracle, as the child that comes when his time is fulfilled, as a gift of the Father which he lays into those arms that are stretched out in longing. This is how the first Christmas came; in this way it always comes anew, both to us as individuals and to the whole world.
